Scott Gambler 2013

Shock linkage looks unnecessarily busy to me. What is essential in the design of this single pivot? No shock tunnel and no mounting of shock to an unsupported part of the downtube perhaps. Still, Last Herb AM and FR achieve in a fairly simple way what it has taken Scott great effort to complicate.

Un saludo

I think the linkage is fine. All the brands likes to have some "Unique" linkage design, even if it works the same as 90% of all DH bikes on the market, and the old Gambler was a very common design.

Also, the design is a carbon frame factory's dream. It is going to be sooooooo easy to build a carbon version of this bike. Nobody talks about how much carbon cost, but I think that the new main triangle in carbon can be cheaper than the old one in aluminium. and they are going to charge more, because it's better, and lighter, and stronger... so it's a very good design from that point of view.

The new Demo Carbon on the other side is a "Bad design" Keeping the tunnel is not a good idea, the frame it's going to weight more and be more expensive to manufacture... It would have been a very good idea to change the design to something like the Enduro or Stumpjumper... Continuous seat tube + Shock extension. when you design anything you have to take into consideration how the material works best, aluminium is not the same as carbon, so designs can't be the same.

Best regards,
Tony

I think there is a problem with the Demo design too. I am persuaded by the Commencal argument that the down tube should not be used as a fixed shock mount point where that point is a long way from a tube junction and the shock drives into / toward the tube at a sharp angle - there are too many structural / material compromises with that kind of arrangement. This same argument applies to many other DH/AM bikes - Labyrinth, Nukeproof, Morewood, Lapierre, Saracen Ariel.

I am happy to see ongoing experiments with shock tunnels though as long as the premium to be paid does not get too great.

Cheers
Chris
